This year, Europcar is supporting Volkswagen Racing Cup national racing championship and a resplendent Beetle RSi is running in the company’s corporate livery. More than that, taking the wheel to compete in the racing event is Europcar UK Fleet Director Michael McInerney.

Michael raced the first two rounds of the Volkswagen Racing Cup competition last week-end (5/6 April) at the Rockingham Motor Speedway. Quickly coming to terms with the 240bhp machine’s handling around Rockingham’s high speed bowl and twisty infield circuit, the Fleet Director toped 130mph.

Michael commented, "It certainly is harder than it looks. And this weekend, thanks to the rain, I span off for the first time and crashed into the chicanes… thankfully the car was intact and so was I!"

Michael will be racing on five other occasions during the year.
